Harlandale ISD proposes roughly $5.8M in food and supply contracts for 2026–27

Harlandale ISD staff asked trustees to approve several large purchases to support the Child Nutrition Program for the 2026–27 school year.
Assistant Superintendent Mister Flores said the district plans to procure approximately $3,500,000 of food items through Labatt Institutional via the Region 20 purchasing cooperative, using Region 20 contract vehicles. "Purchases utilizing Region 20 purchasing cooperative meet or exceed the state of Texas and local procurement requirements for price competition," he said.
The child nutrition department also requested approval to purchase roughly $2,000,000 of dairy products through Dairy Farms of America under Region 20 contract 2418-01. A separate proposed purchase from Imperial Dade via Region 20 contract 3521-E1 amounted to approximately $300,000 for supplies.
Mr. Flores told trustees he brought the full-year projected costs so the Child Nutrition Department can plan operations for the upcoming school year. Trustees discussed the cooperative procurement process and were reminded Region 20 performs bidding and delivers product to the district; one trustee suggested exploring alternative vendors should market consolidations occur.
All items were presented for board review as required under district policy for requisitions exceeding $50,000; staff said approvals will ensure meal services continue without disruption in the upcoming school year.
