Board Appoints Lucen ("Luke") Sergio to Fill Somerville Board Vacancy

Board members then voted on the resolution to appoint the first nominee; the roll‑call vote recorded affirmative responses from the present members and the president declared the nominee appointed.
Following the vote the newly appointed member came forward to take the required oath: during the administration of the oath the appointee identified himself as "I, Lucen Sergio," affirmed he possessed the statutory qualifications for a board member and repeated the oath to support the U.S. and New Jersey Constitutions and to faithfully perform the duties of office. The board asked the appointee to complete a criminal history background check within 30 days as required by statute.
Board members publicly thanked all five candidates for participating and encouraged the remaining candidates to consider filing for one of the seats on the November ballot; the board president reminded listeners of the county filing deadline and the number of signatures required. The board also noted that none of the executive‑session deliberations resulted in formal action taken in private; nominations and the final vote were completed in public session.
The appointment fills the vacancy created by a recent departure; the appointed member will serve through the board’s organization meeting in January 2027 unless elected to a longer term. The board recessed to regular business and then adjourned for the evening.
