JOPLIN — Darren Collins told the Zoning and Planning Commission on April 14, 2025, that he is requesting rezoning of a lot at 410 West 26th Street from R-1 (single-family residential) to C-1 (neighborhood commercial) to align the parcel with an adjacent commercial use and to facilitate a prospective sale.
“We purchased a lot behind [the salon] after the tornado and intended to build a storage facility there and a safe room…We’re just requesting to have that changed,” Collins said, explaining the lot would serve parking and potential accessory uses tied to the business at the corner.
No members of the public spoke in favor or opposition during the hearing. Chair opened the floor for a motion; the commission moved to approve Case 015-25 and the motion carried. The approved record will be forwarded to the City Council for final action on May 5, 2025.
The commission’s approval advances the rezoning request to the City Council, which will make the final decision. The transcript records no conditions or specific permits attached to the commission’s action.
