The Chadron City Council swore in Ashley Tolstead as a new police officer during its Jan. 5 meeting.
The presiding official introduced Tolstead, who had been hired in October and graduated from the academy Dec. 18 with honors, and invited her to take the oath. Tolstead repeated the oath to support the U.S. and Nebraska constitutions, obey state law and city ordinances, and to “faithfully serve the citizens of Chadron in the discharge of my duties as a police officer to the best of my knowledge and ability.”
Councilmembers and others congratulated Tolstead. Staff said she has started field training and will rotate shifts as part of her training assignment.
The swearing-in occurred during the consent and personnel portion of the agenda; no formal vote beyond acceptance of the consent agenda was required for the oath.
