Committee approves July 25 retreat, plans April housing education and community outreach

A local community planning committee approved a July 25, 2026 date for its HRC retreat and spent most of its meeting organizing outreach plans for the coming year, including an education session planned for April.

The chair opened the meeting and led discussion about a day-of-service model intended to bring vendors and partner organizations into neighborhoods to provide resources. One participant urged organizers to measure success by both the number of organizations that table and whether attendees "learned something," and recommended collecting simple survey responses as attendees left.

A member reporting on prior events said the group "actually got less data than we did last year, which is really low," and noted QR-code surveys were underused and single-person tables made data collection difficult. The committee discussed recruiting more volunteers to staff tables and run short exit surveys, and suggested splitting planning tasks into logistics and merchandise committees.

A staff member noted, "April is housing month," and proposed partnering with HCD (Housing and Community Development) to host a housing education session. Committee members discussed the opportunity to align that session with an existing Triangle Plaza event and to include the session as the first stop on a quarterly bus tour to reach residents where they gather.

The group also referenced a recent work session by the Georgia Institute for Community Housing and asked two members to locate and share the presentation and video link so the committee can review stakeholder findings and next steps.

On a scheduling motion, the committee moved to hold the HRC retreat on July 25, 2026 from noon to 4 p.m.; the chair called a voice vote and members responded "all in favor." The transcript records the approval by voice vote but does not record a mover, a second, or a roll-call tally.

Near the end of the meeting William was asked to remain as secretary and confirmed he would continue in that role. Committee members set marketing and volunteer recruitment as agenda items for the next meeting and agreed to follow up with HCD and other partners about the April session.
