The Chadron City Council on Jan. 5 approved the first and final pay application to Mark Chrisman Trucking for phase one of the Cowboy Trail project for $183,521.
City staff told the council the project’s original bid was a little over $199,000, but savings in materials and other balances reduced the final pay amount to $183,521. Staff said the work was funded through a combination of state and federal grants, with some local contributions; no city general-fund dollars were used for the pay application, although city labor contributed as pass-through in-kind support.
Council members asked whether local trail association funds passed through the grant would remain with the association; staff said the remaining local funds can continue to be used by the trail association under the current understanding of the grant terms.
Resolution 2026-3, the council’s authorization of payment to Mark Chrisman Trucking, passed by unanimous roll call (Graves, Alexi, Anderson, Shepard voted yes).
City Manager Tom also reminded residents that the Cowboy Trail is intended for pedestrians and bicycles, not motorized vehicles or livestock, and that signage and yield markings are being installed.
