Holmen School District proposes small increase to student meal prices

Director of Nutrition Services Mike Gasper told the Holmen School District board on June 8 that rising food and labor costs mean the district will propose modest price increases for school meals.
Gasper said the food budget ran about $80,000–$100,000 above what was anticipated this year and that food prices are expected to be 5–7% higher next year. He recommended what he called “a 10% change to all student meals,” explaining that in practice the district would add ten cents to student breakfasts and lunches and raise adult meals by 25 cents. He gave these example changes: student breakfast from $2.25 to $2.35, K–5 lunch from $3.25 to $3.35 and grades 6–12 lunch from $3.50 to $3.60.
"What we're going to propose is a 10% change to all student meals. So, adding 10 cents to our student breakfast," Gasper said, describing the operational drivers behind the proposal. He noted the district intends to keep no‑charge meals for students who qualify for reduced price — a policy the district has funded from its fund balance for several years.
Gasper highlighted that the district has implemented farm‑to‑school initiatives and scratch cooking and said a new restaurant‑style pizza operation will come to the middle and high schools to boost participation while keeping sodium and whole‑grain standards.
The board asked no questions at the meeting. Gasper’s recommended meal‑price changes are scheduled to appear on the board’s June 22 consent agenda for formal action.
The district provided the presentation as a preview; any final price changes and effective dates will be listed in the consent agenda materials on June 22.
