The board presented proclamations and commendations to Freddie Davis of the Hayward South Alameda County NAACP; the Oakland Museum of California for its "Black Spaces: Reclaim and Remain" exhibit; Professor Steven Cleveland; Robert Phillips, president and CEO of BayWell Health; and Paula Ambrose, a recognized community servant.
Each recipient was invited to speak briefly. Freddie Davis reflected on a lifetime of advocacy and urged continued collective action. Daniea Talley and Angieria Kaka represented the Oakland Museum and described the museum's effort to preserve local histories and highlight displacement in West Oakland and Russell City. Professor Cleveland and Mr. Phillips accepted commendations and spoke about education and community health work.
The board framed the proclamations as part of a countywide commitment to equity and civic engagement. The meeting then moved to the regular consent calendar and other business.
