Richmond board approves hires, promotions, change order and lease in routine session

At its June 9 meeting the Richmond City Board of Commissioners approved a string of routine orders and project actions.
Personnel actions passed included: acceptance of Peggy Stewart's resignation from the parks grounds department (Order 26-85, effective May 22); conditional hires for two police officer candidates (Daniel Sparks and Michael Shelby) contingent on background checks and entry into the Criminal Justice Training program (Order 26-87, effective June 15, 2026); promotions of two firefighters to Firefighter III (Matthew Frost and James White) effective June 12, 2026 (Order 26-88); and the reclassification of McKenzie Davis to Executive Administrative Assistant in the police department (Order 26-92, effective June 16).
The board also approved Order 26-86, a change order for bid package three on the Richmond Regional Sports Complex to add sewer and irrigation-related work at a total price of $62,378, to be funded from the Sports Complex project fund. The board authorized a one-year lease extension with Eastern Kentucky University for the Crab Street parking lot (Order 26-93), with revenue from the lease directed to the Irvington House fund (estimated $32,000–$35,000 per year).
Each action was brought to the floor, moved, seconded and recorded as approved with affirmative votes from Commissioners Brewer, Cole, Goel, Newbie and the mayor.
