Williston commissioners appoint Brittany Foust as municipal court judge

The Williston Board of City Commissioners on July 9 unanimously appointed Brittany Foust to serve as the City of Williston Municipal Court Judge, filling a vacancy created by the June 30 resignation of Judge Janet Zander.
City Administrator Shawn Wenko recommended the appointment under North Dakota Century Code 40-18-03 and said the position would be retroactive to July 1, carry an annual salary of $84,000 and run through June 2026. "We are recommending the appointment of Brittany Foust to the position of City of Williston Municipal Court Judge," Wenko said during his presentation.
Former Judge Janet Zander spoke briefly about her 30 years with the municipal court and thanked the Board for the opportunity. Commissioner Tate Cymbaluk moved to approve the appointment, Commissioner James Bervig seconded, and the motion carried 5-0 (Siemieniewski, Bervig, Cymbaluk, Bekkedahl, Klug voting aye).
The appointment fills the midterm vacancy and, per state statute cited at the meeting, the appointee will serve until the next city election. The commission did not discuss other candidates or outline additional transitional steps during the public portion of the meeting.
The commission adjourned at 6:21 p.m.
