Alice ISD awards $238,363 interior painting contract for Science Elementary

The Alice School Board approved an award of RFT26‑03 for interior painting services at Science Elementary to Prime Maintenance & Construction for $238,363.91, the only bidder on the project.

Scope and timeline: The contractor told the board the scope covers classrooms, corridors, gymnasium and library; the firm described an eight‑week schedule and said it would tackle roughly 10 classrooms per week, plus the library and gym. For high‑traffic corridors the bidder recommended a catalyzed epoxy coating for durability; classrooms would receive primer plus a commercial‑grade finish. The contractor said the crew would handle moving shelves and furniture and recommended the librarian mark books by area to ease re‑shelving after paint work.

Questions and oversight: Trustees asked for the contractor’s exact square footage calculations and drawings; the contractor agreed to provide takeoffs and drawings within days of the meeting. Board members also discussed start dates, specialty coatings and whether the kitchen area was excluded because of previous warranties.

Motion and vote: The board moved and seconded the award and approved Prime Maintenance & Construction’s proposal as presented. The superintendent and facilities staff said Science Elementary was prioritized for this summer’s painting cycle because of condition and readiness for summer work.
