Administrators reviewed TELPAS (assessment of English language proficiency) numbers and explained that the state changed the progress metric this year: a student must now increase the overall composite score (not just two domains) to be counted as having made progress. That change raises the bar for some emergent bilingual students but the district reported multiple campuses met the current interim targets and a subset also met a long‑term target the district tracks.
On end‑of‑course (EOC) exams, staff highlighted multi‑year growth in Algebra I, biology and English course performance between spring 2023 and spring 2026 (examples: algebra approaches rose from ~60% to 83%; meets rose from ~19% to 48%; masters improved from 5% to 19%). Staff also noted that preliminary numbers do not yet include fall/summer retesters or some extended response rescores; some rescores already returned increased several students’ performance levels and changed pass/fail status for a few.
Parents and data access: The district reminded families that preliminary results will appear first in the family portal (Skyward) with final results posted later to the public Texas Research Portal; staff committed to sharing dates and a short how‑to video for parents to view student‑level reports and exam items.
What’s next: Final accountability figures and Texas Academic Performance Reports will be published after state processing in July and August; the board received the update for information and asked no motioned action on this item.
