Whitefish Bay approves $52,650 agreement with Shorewood to coordinate water-main work

The Whitefish Bay Village Board on May 19 approved an intergovernmental cooperation agreement with neighboring Shorewood to include portions of the village in Shorewood’s Oakland Avenue water-main project.
Staff told the board the total estimated Whitefish Bay share is $52,650 — about $6,650 for design services and $46,000 for construction — and that the cost can be absorbed within existing water utility rates and the village’s CIP model. The project would recreate a looped water system at the southern municipal boundary, improving circulation and public-health resilience on dead-ended mains.
Officials said four properties that currently take all municipal utilities from Shorewood would be reconnected to Whitefish Bay’s water system as part of the work. Staff also told trustees that, when a service line is touched during construction, the homeowner’s water service line would be replaced in conjunction with the project, where needed.
A motion to approve the IGA was moved and seconded and carried by voice vote. Trustees did not request further amendments to the agreement at the meeting.
Next steps: staff will finalize the design scope with Shorewood, include the village’s portion in the final bid documents and return with any material changes to the board before construction.
