Mr. Martin asked whether the design fee percentage is typical; presenters said a design fee of $139,000 is in line with larger projects and that phasing is possible to optimize bonding. The board was told the district should seriously consider solar as part of the plan to offset utility expenditures and avoid reallocating education funds toward operations.
The timeline discussed called for design documents to start arriving by late June or early July and for bonding decisions to be made late summer or early fall to meet bonding windows. Trustees were reminded that approving the PDA does not obligate the district to the full project.
Vote and next steps: the motion to approve the PDA passed unanimously, 7–0. The district will receive design deliverables, the superintendent and board will provide input, and staff signaled training on bonding and project timing would follow that evening.
