The Montevallo City Council on May 26 handled routine business and heard community reports before adjourning at 6:43 p.m.
Council approved the May 11 meeting minutes and voted to pay the city's bills. Council Member King made a motion to suspend the rules to take up an ordinance immediately; the motion passed unanimously before the council approved the ordinance on the same night.
Chief Burr delivered the Police Department report for April, recording 77 reports in April and a year-to-date total of 454 reports; Appendix 1 of the meeting materials lists specific counts for criminal and noncriminal reports, traffic citations, arrest categories, and other metrics. Council Member Sarah Hogan Shaw and representatives from Impact Montevallo, Montevallo Main Street, the Montevallo Chamber of Commerce, and Parnell Memorial Library reported on upcoming events including the KASH Market, Friday Nights at the Cove, the 16th Annual Farmers’ Market beginning June 1, and library summer programming. The library reported receipt of a $10,000 LSTA federal grant for adult nonfiction collection development (no local match required).
A resident asked about a possible groundbreaking for the new high school gym during public comment. The meeting concluded after citizen participation and the council’s customary motions to adjourn.
