Montevallo council approves conveyance of small parcel to state for Highway 119 project

The Montevallo City Council on May 26 approved Ordinance 05262026-253 to convey a small parcel of municipal land along Alabama State Route 119 to the Alabama Department of Transportation for right-of-way needed for Project ATRP2-59-2023-348.

Council Member David King moved to approve the ordinance; Council Member Lelia Mitchell seconded the motion, which passed on an All Ayes vote after the council temporarily suspended the rules to consider the item. The ordinance identifies the property as 4560 Highway 119 (Parcel Number: 27 1 02 0 001 015.002) and describes a conveyance of approximately 0.032 acres as part of the road-improvement project. The ordinance directs the mayor to execute a deed conveying the parcel for $1.00 consideration and authorizes incidental actions required to complete the transfer.

The ordinance text included in the meeting materials cites State Project ATRP2-59-2023-348 and provides the parcel description and legal language required for conveyance to the State of Alabama. City officials said the transfer is intended to accommodate roadway improvements; no public opposition to the conveyance was recorded in the meeting minutes.
