Impact Montevallo reports drug-threat notice citing ‘Cychlorphine’ and lists summer programs

Sarah Hogan Shaw, program director for Impact Montevallo, updated the council on the nonprofit’s calendar and relayed a federal drug-threat advisory during the work session on May 11.
Shaw said the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy issued a Drug Threat Notice on April 30 that named a synthetic opioid the report referred to as “Cychlorphine,” and that the notice described the substance as potentially up to 10 times more potent than fentanyl. Shaw reported the notice had associated 55 deaths with the substance in areas where it had been detected. Shaw delivered the ONDCP information as part of Impact’s regular report and cited specific upcoming programs including a Leaders of Tomorrow recognition dinner (May 14), MMS Awards Day (May 18–19), the MMS Spring Fling (May 20), Camp Journey (July 20–23, 17 registered attendees reported), and other youth- and family-focused events.
Impact’s report was presented to inform council and the public; council did not take action based on the advisory during the meeting. Shaw’s presentation listed a schedule of short-term action meetings (June–July) and community events (Family Movie Night, Youth Forum, Family Bingo Night and Momentum Awards) and referenced the Safe Schools Conference scheduled May 30–June 7.
The council received the report as informational. The ONDCP notice as read into the record was not accompanied by supplemental documentation in the council packet included with the transcript; verification of the notice’s contents and spelling of the substance name should be done against the ONDCP public release for formal reporting or follow-up.
