Montevallo council unanimously approves bond, software contract, HVAC and fire truck equipment

At its May 11 meeting, the Montevallo City Council unanimously approved a $6,600 surety bond for a land-disturbance permit, a three-year iWorQ code-enforcement contract at $2,750 annually, a $16,935.12 HVAC replacement for Fire Station No. 2, appointment of LaToya Cottingham to Parks & Recreation, and purchase of a $18,995 NAFECO skid unit for the fire brush truck.
The Montevallo City Council voted unanimously on May 11 to approve a set of administrative and procurement items, including a surety bond for a proposed childcare site, a new software subscription for code enforcement, an HVAC replacement at a fire station and equipment for the fire department.
The council adopted Resolution 04272026-124 to accept a $6,600 surety bond submitted on behalf of Learning Tree Management, LLC to cover clearing, earthwork and other land-disturbing activities at 500 Freedom Parkway. Council Member David King moved the resolution; Council Member Brandelyn Nelson seconded, and the motion passed on a unanimous vote by the mayor and five council members.
Council Member King also moved approval of a three-year Service Agreement with iWorQ for code-enforcement software at an annual cost of $2,750; Council Member Lelia Mitchell seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Contract appendices included a one-time setup fee listed at $600 and hosting/backups described as provided via AWS GovCloud in the vendor materials.
For the city’s facilities, Council approved a vendor quote from Active Air, Inc. to replace the heat-pump system at Fire Station No. 2 for $16,935.12. Council Member Kenneth Dukes moved the acceptance of the quote; Council Member King seconded and the vote was unanimous. The vendor’s proposal file also listed a lower-cost repair alternative, but the council approved full replacement.
The council appointed LaToya Cottingham to the Parks & Recreation Board for a three-year term ending May 11, 2029. The motion to appoint was moved by Council Member Lelia Mitchell, seconded by Council Member Brandelyn Nelson and approved unanimously.
Finally, the council approved purchase of a NAFECO skid unit for the fire brush truck from capital reserves for $18,995. Council Member David King moved the purchase, Council Member Alyssa Green seconded, and the motion passed on a unanimous vote.
Public-safety reports were presented as part of the meeting: Police Chief Burr reported 92 incident reports for April and 383 reports year-to-date and said the department received 14 portable breathalyzers through an ADECA grant; Fire Chief Davis reported 124 calls in April and 528 calls year-to-date. These reports were provided as informational items and did not require council action.
The meeting began with recognitions, including presentation of a plaque to outgoing Junior Mayor Mary Elizabeth House, and included one public comment from Mark Wilson, a candidate for District Judge 3. The council adjourned at 6:14 p.m.
