Whitefish Bay — The Village Board on Jan. 6 approved a contract award to Will Surge Electrical to replace the library's fire-alarm panel and interlinked devices for $97,700.
Staff told trustees the existing panel was no longer supported by the previous vendor and that replacement is urgent to avoid a continuous fire watch requirement for the facility. The approved contract covers the panel, smoke-detector interlinking, voice annunciator and related installation work. The bid award was well under the $180,000 the village had planned to borrow for the project; staff said the savings create flexibility for related work, such as an upcoming library roof replacement bid.
Trustees asked about vendor and equipment longevity; staff and consultant Clark Deeds told the board that specifications require bidders to demonstrate reasonable parts availability and maintenance support so the village is not left with obsolete equipment in the near term. The board approved the contract by voice vote.
