Springhouse Park phase one awarded and new pedestrian path funded; construction expected to start this summer

Zach told the commission that both contracts for Springhouse Park phase one — a playground installation and the grading/site and roadway work — have been awarded and a pre-construction meeting with vendors is being scheduled. "These have to be completed by December 1st," he said, noting the work is 100% grant funded through a $1 million state strategic community investment award and will not draw on local dollars.
In a related project, Zach said the department received an MVRPC-administered federal grant to build a 12-foot-wide asphalt bike and pedestrian path beginning across from Lefino Park, running along the west side of Grange Hall Road, tying into Springhouse Park and including a bridge over Little Beaver Creek. He described the path as accessible (maximum 5% grade in hilly sections) and designed to link Lefino Park, Ky Middle School, Springhouse Park and neighborhoods up to the Creekide Trail.
Zach said staff aim to begin construction in July or August and expect the path’s work to extend toward a multi‑year target completion in 2027. He described adjustments to route alignment intended to preserve views from the future overlook shelter and to keep an unobstructed shelter view for rentals when the path is complete.
Board members asked for and received clarifications on path surfacing and routing; Zach confirmed the path through the park will be asphalt with concrete sidewalks for connections, and that a spur will provide pedestrian access to Rockfield Drive. The project includes an accessible bridge over Little Beaver Creek and design changes to keep the pedestrian route from bisecting shelter event views.
The two projects together are intended to increase connectivity among parks, schools and neighborhoods and are timed to align with Springhouse Park’s phase one construction.
