Des Moines County board members agreed to schedule a closed session next week to review offers on the Douglas Street Properties after a presenter reported multiple showings and that "We've got, 1 offer that's been presented." (Presenter) said the listing has generated activity on the MLS and third-party sites, and that an activity report was shared with the board.
The presenter described how exposure through the NoCoast MLS and aggregator sites — including homes.com, Zillow and Redfin — generates both local "agent hits" and unique (outside) hits. "So you can look week by week... you've had 50 hits or now you're at 55 or 60," the Presenter said, explaining the activity-report metrics. The Presenter also said, "I've shown it, 4 times, and I've got a scheduled 2nd showing with a client for tomorrow." (Presenter)
A Committee member said the board should not discuss price or offer specifics in open session. "I don't know we don't wanna talk about numbers or offers or counter offers or anything like that in in in open session. That would be something that that's what closed session was made for," the Committee member said, prompting agreement to hold a closed session so members could discuss the offers confidentially. The Committee member later asked, "Is that okay with you, Tracy, if we talk prices in closed session?" and received assent from others.
No formal motion or recorded vote was taken at the work session; attendees agreed informally to schedule the closed session next week to review the offers and pricing. The chair closed the brief meeting with a reminder to vote in the day's election.
Next steps: the board expects to meet in closed session next week to discuss offer details; no public price or offer particulars were disclosed at this session.
