Region 11 superintendent reports IT resignation, interim EastConn support and facility audit; board hears PHTOPS presentation

Superintendent Andrew Skarzynski told the Region 11 Board of Education on June 9 that the district received the resignation of Marshall Hudon from IT and that EastConn will provide interim IT services while the district adjusts staffing.
Skarzynski also said the district contracted Bureau Veritas to perform a facilities condition audit that identified needs with roofs and boilers; an HVAC audit is expected to follow. He said curriculum materials are being compiled for posting to the district website and that a curriculum committee will be developed. Summer administrative goals include updating job descriptions and permitting some central staff to work a few days remotely to reduce gas and cooling costs.
Separately, teacher Christopher Moore presented the PHTOPS transition program for students ages 18–22 with autism or intellectual disabilities, describing hands-on learning with local businesses, individualized instruction and post-exit goals for transportation independence, self-advocacy and employment-oriented skills. The board also recorded multiple student recognitions including valedictorian Madelyn Woodward and salutatorian Gracie Pearl, as well as awards for student artists and the Persevering Pirate.
The minutes record actions and reports but provide no detailed cost estimates for contracting EastConn, the facilities work, or the budget impact of filling the IT vacancy.
