Lake County 911 Authority to evaluate Central Square/CallWorks phone and CAD options; demonstrations expected in February

Director Sarah Beard briefed the authority on evaluating Central Square (CallWorks) as a combined phone and CAD solution and asked the board to schedule vendor demonstrations in February.
Sarah told the board CallWorks can provide both phone-system integration for call handling and CAD/RMS features. "They do have the ability to pull the raw... data," she said, describing a capability raised after a recent bomb-threat incident. She recommended seeking two separate quotes: one for call handling alone and another for a joint package that could include RMS and jail modules so the authority can compare costs and functionality.
Sarah recommended meeting with all affected divisions — dispatch, EMS, sheriff, police and fire — and suggested the February board meeting (Feb. 6) as the initial opportunity for vendor presentations. Staff also discussed comparing current Motorola Flex expenditures to any Central Square proposal and asking the vendor to show how costs could be split among participating agencies.
Sarah said an implementation would likely take 6–12 months, and Central Square’s pricing is phased by milestones rather than a single large up-front cost. The board agreed to invite Central Square and to request separate quotes so each entity can evaluate cost splits.
What’s next: staff will coordinate demonstration dates for the Feb. 6 meeting and collect Motorola Flex contract figures for a side-by-side cost comparison.
