Superintendent: sprinkler going in at Leadford but legal title questions delay handoff

At the July 7 meeting Superintendent Neelson updated the board on the Leadford property the district is preparing to accept. She said crews are scheduled to install a sprinkler system this week and that asbestos removal on the site is complete, but that the district cannot finish a formal handoff until title issues are resolved.
Neelson described a title complication stemming from an historic landholding corporation listed on title whose listed partners are deceased; district and town legal teams are searching for heirs or successors with a potential claim. She said contractor Samson has been engaged to remove old equipment and to clear weeds while the district continues site maintenance until the handoff is finalized.
The superintendent stressed the paperwork and legal resolution are taking longer than anticipated and said staff will keep the board and any interested community members informed as the legal work progresses.
