Supervisors approve joint letter urging York County to pursue homelessness grants

Township staff summarized two letters from York County Regional Police and other municipal managers: one letter recommended adopting ordinances that aid enforcement of encampment policies; the other cautioned that displacement does not solve homelessness and recommended county-level leadership and grant coordination. Staff proposed a draft joint letter for the board's signature to encourage county action and to coordinate a regional response.
Board members expressed support for forwarding the letter to county commissioners and to circulate the draft among neighboring municipalities for signature. One supervisor described the step as a way to “light a fire under the York County Commissioners” to pursue grant funding and regional solutions.
The motion to sign and forward the joint letter passed unanimously. Staff said the draft will be emailed to county commissioners and circulated to other municipalities and association members so they may opt into the coordinated request.
