Gila County approves ADOT IGA for Fossil Creek Road sidewalk preliminary design (grant ~$297,000)

The Gila County Board of Supervisors voted May 12 to approve an intergovernmental agreement with the Arizona Department of Transportation to develop scope and preliminary design for a sidewalk on Fossil Creek Road from State Route 87 toward Rimwood/Fuller (about 0.8 miles). The project was awarded a Transportation Alternatives grant of roughly $297,000; county staff estimated a local cost of $17,547 for the scoping phase.
Tom, presenting for public works, said the grant covers preliminary design work and that the process will examine feasibility, alignment and width: “So this will cover just the scoping part of the project…so they’ll decide how feasible it is, where it should go, how wide it should be,” he said. Supervisors discussed pedestrian safety given high local driving speeds and asked staff to evaluate road speed conditions as part of scoping.
The board moved and seconded the IGA and approved it. Staff said the scoping work will proceed to roughly 30% plans and that additional safety and design details will be addressed during design and coordination with ADOT.
