The Gila County Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted proclamation 2026-04 May 12, designating May 2026 as National Treatment Court Month in Gila County.
Judge Cannon and team members presented a program evaluation and described recent changes expanding the opioid court into the Gila County Recovery Court to serve individuals with a broader range of substance use disorders. Judge Cannon summarized evaluation findings and program operations, including random drug testing and incentives to support participant success, and asked the board to adopt the proclamation: “We are requesting that the Gila County Board of Supervisors proclaim the month of May 2026 as national treatment court month in Gila County,” he said.
Staff noted strengths identified in a June 2025 program evaluation, including team communication and training needs, and listed recommendations to expand eligibility, increase enrollment and develop role-specific training and a steering committee. Supervisors thanked the team for the work on recovery services. The board voted to adopt the proclamation and encouraged ongoing program support.
The proclamation recognizes the local Recovery Court’s role in providing evidence-based treatment and community supervision and signals continued county support for program development and outreach.
