The Surprise City Council approved a purchase agreement May 19 to acquire roughly 0.751 acres adjacent to Veramonte Park at Litchfield Road and Sweetwater Avenue to expand parking and enable additional park programming.
Parks director Holly Osborne said the extra land will allow the city to add programmable spaces, lighting and fields, and reduce street parking in nearby neighborhoods. Staff said the parcel complements earlier Veramonte improvement planning and that funding for lights is already in place. Lloyd (parks staff) explained the purchase would secure land previously expected to provide parking as part of a private project that did not proceed.
Council member Judd and others expressed support, noting the parcel would enable programming without cutting into existing park open space. Council moved, seconded and approved the purchase agreement, special warranty deed and release of the perpetual parking and ingress/egress easement, and authorized the city manager to execute all associated documents.
