La Paz County supervisors approve consent agenda, banking contract, bingo recommendations and tentative jail budget

At their May 18 meeting, the La Paz County Board of Supervisors moved through multiple action items by voice vote.
Consent and proclamations: The board approved Consent Agenda items 5(a)–(l) without discussion. The board also adopted Proclamation 2026-12, declaring June 2026 as Elder Abuse Awareness Month in La Paz County; Carol Brown of the Western Arizona Council of Governments Area Agency on Aging addressed the board and described outreach materials and statistics about underreporting of elder abuse ("only 1 in 24 incidents are being reported," she said).
Contracts and licenses: Finance staff recommended — and the board approved — awarding the county banking services contract to incumbent Western Alliance Bank for a term of July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2029, with an option to extend for two additional years; staff cited earnings-credit rates, money-market yields and transition costs as reasons to stay with the current bank. The board also voted to forward recommendations to the Arizona Department of Revenue for two bingo-license applications: Desert Gold RV Park (applicant Mark Meyer) in Salome and VFW Post 2357 (applicant Lt. Col. Joseph O’Hanlon) in Bouse; both hearings were opened and closed with no public comment.
Jail district: The board reviewed and approved the La Paz County Jail District tentative budget for FY26–27, which shows a negative beginning balance but includes transfers and a general-fund subsidy to produce a small projected ending balance.
Executive session authorized: Finally, the board voted to enter executive session under ARS §38-431.03(A)(4) to receive legal advice regarding management of Kelly B. and a tax matter (TX2026-000064).
