El Mirage council approves $50,000 increase to YMCA services agreement to boost resident participation

The Common Council voted to authorize a $50,000 budget increase to the city’s purchase order with the Northwest Valley YMCA to expand resident participation and subsidized programming.
City staff and Northwest Valley YMCA executive director Mary Davis presented usage data showing resident visits increased from roughly 22,000 in 2023 to more than 51,000 in 2025, and described scholarship programs, Sunday open‑swim participation and a parents‑night‑out program. "In FY25 we saw the significant increase to almost 330,000," a city presenter said when reviewing partnership costs; staff reported the recreation budget was $350,000 annually and that FY27 anticipates up to $400,000.
Council members praised the partnership and asked for clearer outreach about available subsidies. Council liaison Darcy (Council Member Dorsey) noted the YMCA raised more than $100,000 for scholarships and urged continued promotion of programs that benefit El Mirage families. On a motion by Vice Mayor Parsons the council approved the $50,000 contingency increase.
Next steps: staff will adjust the recreation budget and continue outreach to encourage eligible residents to use scholarships and programs.
