Council acts on multiple zoning and code items; two planning rezones denied on first reading

At the June 9 business session the clerk read a block of ordinances on first reading and the council took votes on multiple items.

Notable outcomes: an ordinance amending rate schedules (item 8A) passed on first reading; the council also passed code and zoning updates on first reading (including deletion of a section of the International Building Code and several rezones subject to conditions). Planning item 8F (rezone at 2836 Anderson Terrace) was denied after a motion to deny was seconded and upheld; Councilwoman Dotley moved to deny planning item 8I (1601 and 603 East 49th Street) on nonconformance with the Rosville corridor redevelopment and the motion to deny was upheld.

The council deferred resolution 9A (a special exceptions permit for a liquor store at 7703 Lee Highway) one week to June 16 pending additional applicant information and proof of publication. The council approved resolution 9B, appointing Emily Wood as a special armed police officer with duties limited to development review planner functions in the Department of Public Works code enforcement office.

Purchasing approvals: wastewater laboratory equipment from Fiser Scientific for $127,898.79 and a knuckle boom truck for street maintenance from Stringfellow for $236,814 were approved; the council also acknowledged a sole‑source HubSpot continuation for Public Works communications.
