Hybridge Trail reports surge in visitation, announces bridge closure and summer events

Daniel Jordan, park manager at Hybridge Trail State Park, told the Prince Edward County Board of Supervisors on June 9 that park visitation and revenue have grown since the visitor center opened and that several maintenance projects and events are planned this summer.
"Since we opened the visitor center on December 28, 2024, we've seen a 40% increase of revenue," Jordan said. He reported more than 305,000 trail visits through April and estimated the park generates about $13.46 million in local economic impact and supports roughly 149 full-time-equivalent jobs.
Jordan said River Road Bridge, about nine and a half miles from Main Street, will be closed for approximately one month starting July 6 for a redecking project being done by local firms Gecko out of Blackstone and Brock Construction. The park will provide signage and alternate access points during the work.
Jordan also previewed new interactive exhibits coming to the visitor center in late July or early August, and highlighted the Firefly Festival (pre-sold tickets) and a night-train 50K event as summer draws expected to bring nonresident spending into the county.
Board members thanked Jordan and noted the park's value to residents and visitors. The board did not take action on park funding at the meeting; Jordan's report was informational.
