Enumclaw board approves 180‑day waivers, GMP amendment and related contract

The Enumclaw School District Board of Directors approved three resolutions and a construction oversight contract at its May 18 meeting, the board announced.

The board approved Resolution 11‑68, a 180‑school‑day waiver for transitional kindergarten; Resolution 1169, a 180‑day waiver affecting high‑school scheduling to allow incoming ninth graders a full campus day; and Resolution 1170, which authorized the district to accept a guaranteed maximum price amendment for an ongoing construction project. Chair opened the motions and Director Fisher moved to approve the three resolutions; Director Stouffer seconded and the measures were adopted by voice vote.

During the same portion of the meeting the board voted to approve a special inspections and testing contract intended to verify construction materials and workmanship for district projects. Director Stouffer moved the contract approval; the board approved the motion by voice vote.

Board members offered few substantive amendments or debate on the resolutions. Director Cochran asked for clarification on the GMP authorization prior to the vote and was thanked for requesting the additional detail. The board did not record roll‑call tallies in the minutes; approvals were recorded as voice votes with the chair noting the motions passed.

Why it matters: The 180‑day waivers adjust instructional and staffing calendars to accommodate program needs (including student‑led conferences and ECAP program alignment) without reducing total required instructional hours.
