DuPage CVB, Windy City Curling Club urge Villa Park to preserve $10,000 sponsorship

Representatives of the DuPage Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Windy City Curling Club appealed to the board for continued funding support at the June 8 meeting.
Beth Marquetti, appearing for the DuPage CVB, said the bureau helps market 38 DuPage communities and leverages hotel/motel tax and state grants; she told trustees the CVB’s work helps bring sports tournaments and visitors to Villa Park. Marquetti noted that a $10,000 local contribution acts as a match for state grant funding and urged the village attorney to examine related statutory considerations.
Matt Galis and Amanda Pizaric of Windy City Curling Club described how the CVB helped the club secure grant funding and venue sourcing, cited a membership of about 225 and said the club attracted roughly 5,000 visitors in the prior year. Pizaric estimated the club’s events generated more than $400,000 in local economic impact and said continued DCVB support is vital to host national tournaments and future growth.
Trustees heard the appeals during public comment; no formal vote on DCVB funding was taken at the meeting and the matter remained as a funding consideration for future discussions.
