Cory Evans elected chair as Cohasset School Committee reorganizes officers

The Cohasset School Committee voted on May 20 to reorganize board officers after the town election, electing Cory Evans as chair, Craig Mullen as vice chair and Lance Dial as secretary.

Cory Evans, elected chair by a 3–0–1 tally after he accepted a nomination, said he would "be willing to do it" while noting concerns about bandwidth during the upcoming FY28 budget process.

The committee debated whether to postpone officer elections until all five members could be present. A member asked if the committee could "officially vote to table that discussion for the next meeting so all five members can be present," but the chair said state law and practice support holding the reorganization at the first meeting after the election.

After nominations were seconded and accepted, the committee moved to a voice vote. For vice chair, members unanimously approved Craig Mullen. Lance Dial was approved as secretary by unanimous voice vote.

The committee’s reorganization is procedural but sets who will facilitate agendas and serve as primary contacts for district leadership during the upcoming school year and during major tasks such as the FY28 budget and MSBA project planning. The chair is also one of the committee members who will participate in superintendent evaluation processes.

The meeting adjourned the reorganization and moved on to invited presentations from school principals.

The committee will next meet in regular session; procedural questions raised during nominations (including whether to delay in the case of absent members) were discussed but did not change the board’s decision to elect officers at this meeting.
