The Lakeshore School District board approved a package of budget, levy, personnel and procurement actions during its June 8 meeting, voting by roll call on each item.
Chief Financial Officer Tracy Alt House presented the preliminary final budget modification for 2025'26 and the proposed 2026'27 budget during the budget hearing and recommended adoption. The board moved and approved both budgets and the related appropriation resolution by roll call.
Alt House also presented and the board certified the 2026 tax levy using form L-429. The levy as discussed and certified includes: 1.8 mills for the 2013 bond; 18.0 mills for the non-homestead operating fund; 1.4476 mills for the sinking fund; and 0.9 mills for the 2023 bond.
The board approved several personnel items: the appointment of Jacob Scott as director of operations and transportation beginning July 1 (to work alongside Nick White through the end of the calendar year), and approvals for new staff hires including Rodrigo Degra Amaya (high school Spanish teacher) and Aubrey Nesser (elementary art teacher). The board also approved an unpaid full-year leave of absence for an elementary special education teacher, identified in the meeting as Adriana MW, for medical reasons; the teacher's expected return was discussed as fall 2027.
On procurement, Technology Director Chris Cordermain asked the board to accept the only bid received for a phone system upgrade: $60,496.94 from Moss Telecommunications (Grand Rapids). He also presented the sole bid to upgrade PA systems at three elementary buildings for $164,679.88 from a communications company in South Bend; both bids were approved and were identified as bond-funded work.
Near the end of the meeting the board moved into closed session, approving a motion to enter a closed session under Public Act 267 of 1976, section 8(a), for the superintendent's midyear evaluation.
All motions reported in the meeting were moved, seconded and approved by roll call, with each listed board member recorded as voting in the affirmative.
