The LAMAR CISD Board of Trustees on June 9 voted to assign the Wolf as the mascot and teal, white and silver as the primary colors for Secondary Complex 8, which will serve Williams High School, Urbansky Junior High and Dresnner Middle School.
District staff presented survey results showing close support among three finalist mascots—Tigers, Wolves and Wildcats—and color preferences split between teal and orange. Staff said the first survey was districtwide and a second, targeted survey went to families likely to be zoned to the new complex. More than 950 responses were received for the second survey.
Trustees debated duplicate-mascot concerns (nearby schools using Tigers) and community identity; one trustee noted that a nearby roadway called Tiger Run was not created by the district and would be changed as needed. Trustee Welch moved and Trustee Box seconded the motion to select wolves and the teal/white/silver palette; the motion carried on the board vote.
Why it matters: The decision sets the visual identity for three campuses and affects branding, athletics uniforms, signage and vendor artwork ahead of school openings. Staff said design mock-ups were prepared to show possible football, cheer and band uniforms in both orange and teal treatments.
What's next: Staff will finalize art assets with vendors and roll out branding for the three campuses; trustees requested consideration of community feedback and noted the selection reflected both survey findings and committee recommendations.
