Batavia schedules FY26/27 budget hearings, advances related ordinances and resolutions

Mrs. Tabelski presented the budget as balanced and requested introduction of the FY26/27 budget ordinance and scheduling of a public hearing; Council agreed to move the item forward. At the same meeting she also asked that the proposed water‑rate local law be introduced and a public hearing scheduled; that item likewise was advanced by consensus.
City officials also advanced an annual strategic‑plan resolution and an annual capital‑projects resolution. Council President Jankowski asked that the Prospect Avenue project be included in the capital plan and said he was pleased with that project's outcome. Council recorded agreement to move both resolutions forward for subsequent consideration.
Council reviewed and confirmed a series of upcoming budget work sessions: Jan. 26 (manager presentation and revenue discussion), Feb. 3 (fire and general government/administration), Feb. 5 (police and DPW), and Feb. 9 (water and wastewater following the regular Council meeting); Feb. 16 was reserved as a final session if needed. Staff emphasized that the 5 p.m. regular meeting will be followed immediately by the scheduled budget sessions.
The meeting also recorded a request to amend the FY25/26 budget to record a previously awarded New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) grant for wastewater inflow and infiltration planning; Mrs. Tabelski said the grant was awarded in fall 2025 and Council agreed to move the amendment forward.
