Library staff provided updates on June 9 about the ongoing renovation, recent grants and the summer program schedule.
Staff described interior finishes and furniture choices: the main adult area will include orange accents to echo past shelving, the teen area will use a green palette and the children's room will have a blue theme; a neutral gray palette will be used in the community room. Staff said structural work is underway with seismic retrofitting, steel brackets, poured footings and new doorways; windows and doors are not yet installed. A reopening target "sometime in 2027" was mentioned and trustees were encouraged to track photos on Engage Palm Springs and the monthly newsletter and to take hard-hat tours.
On programming, staff reported grant support for summer reading (including a $20,000 donation from US Bank to the Friends of the Library), weekly children's and teen programs at library branches, adult programs (some with registration), Beanstack participation incentives and grand-prize drawings that include a Nintendo Switch and an e-bike. Staff also said the board's online agenda format will switch to the city's system so attachments expand inline and trustees will receive training and recordings.
The update was informational; no policy change or formal action was taken on renovation timing or programming during the meeting.
