West Bradford supervisors award $258,912 sludge contract, authorize purchase of 1505 Shadyside Road

The West Bradford Township Board of Supervisors on March 10 unanimously approved a $258,912 contract to remove sludge from the Strasburg Wastewater Treatment Plant and adopted a resolution authorizing purchase of 1505 Shadyside Road.

In the meeting at the Township building, member Kevin Houghton moved to award the sludge-removal contract to Synagro Central LLC for $258,912 for up to 25 tons of sludge, with additional sludge to be billed at $6,800 per ton; the motion was seconded by Vice Chair Jack M. Hines Jr. and carried 3–0. The contract award covers removal services for the Strasburg plant and was presented as part of the business agenda.

Vice Chair Hines moved to adopt Resolution #26-05 to authorize the township manager to execute purchase of 1505 Shadyside Road; the motion, seconded by Houghton, passed 3–0. The resolution was listed on the agenda as a business item; the purchase price and closing details were not specified in the meeting record.

Also under business, the board approved two committee appointments: Gabriel Goodge to the Recreation Commission (term ending Dec. 31, 2026) and George Supplee to the Agricultural Security Board. Those motions were made by Houghton, seconded by Hines, and carried 3–0.

During the Treasurer’s report, Township Manager Justin Yaich presented year-to-date fund activity and a list of bills. Hines moved to pay the bills and ratify payroll; the motion carried but Hines abstained from a vote on one invoice, citing a conflict on that bill. The meeting packet and department reports were placed on file.

Department reports included a Building and Safety report from Director of Planning Chris Adamek showing 36 permits issued, 47 inspections, and a total construction value in February of $764,857. Fire Chief Jack Law reported 34 responses, 134.68 hours in service and 207 personnel hours for the month. Manager Yaich presented State Police statistics showing 15 automobile accidents, one theft/identity-theft incident and three DUIs. Copies of all reports were noted as being on file at the Township building.

Several residents spoke during public comment. Bobbie Ekdahl asked that data centers not be sited on the Embreeville property; the board said the land is being used for parks and open space. William Westbrook praised a 50% tax reduction for township residents and asked about a roundabout and the property at 1401 Marshallton Thorndale Road; Manager Yaich said the home would be moved and sold on one acre, part of the parcel would be used for the roundabout, and the remaining land would be subdivided and sold at a later date. Fran Schorn raised concerns about the stop sign at Broad Run Road and Poorhouse Road; Chair Laurie W. Abele said the township is working on proposals to improve the intersection.

The board noted there were no subdivision items and listed upcoming commission meeting dates; it also said a March 24, 2026 supervisors meeting would be held if needed. The meeting adjourned after the scheduled business.
