POST outlines potential training role for LA28 under AB 2411; staff caution limited POST operational role

Assistant Executive Director Osborne and Megan Pus from POST's executive office updated the advisory committee on preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Games.
POST has continued interagency collaboration with law-enforcement partners and the Olympic Executive Committee to identify training needs. Staff said they anticipate two workshops (fall and early winter) to develop training approaches in case AB 2411 becomes law. "If [AB2411] passes, POST's role would be limited to training and possibly certification of officers coming into the state for limited support," staff said, noting POST will not be part of mutual-aid dispatching of personnel.
Pus cautioned that the bill was still in development and may change; at the time of the meeting AB2411 had just passed to the Senate. Committee members asked whether AB2411 addresses federal partners; staff said it does not presently address federal partners and noted other bills may limit local-federal collaboration, complicating Olympic planning.
What happens next: POST will continue workshops and planning and will host training on its learning portal if the legislation requires it. POST indicated ongoing coordination with partners and will update the committee as legislation and needs evolve.
