State and federal funding wins touted at District D town hall

State Senator Carol Alvarado told attendees the recent legislative session produced what she described as the largest two‑year state budget in Texas history and highlighted targeted investments including $10 million for a San Jacinto College biotechnology center and $30 million for MD Anderson Institute for Cell Therapy. She also described state grants for coastal protection and a $250 million competitive grant program to help cities build rail grade separations.
Councilmember Joaquin Martinez and Representative Mary Anne Perez also noted significant funds secured for the city, including work on the Lynchburg Pumping Station and federal aid toward storm and derecho recovery. Martinez credited relationships across levels of government for bringing money back to Houston.
Officials urged voters to review upcoming ballots: Alvarado noted several constitutional and bond items and other propositions that will appear in November’s voting materials. The lawmakers closed by encouraging residents to follow up with district offices for details about grant applications and project timelines.
