Commissioners approve monthly financial reports, hear highway department project updates

The Charles Mix County Board of Commissioners on June 4 approved routine fiscal reports for the month ending May 31 and received a status update from the county highway superintendent on multiple road projects and traffic concerns.

Commissioner Nick Stotz moved and Vice Chairman Kory Standy seconded the approval of the Auditor's Account with Treasurer reporting total county deposits of $11,038,134.09, total cash $600.00, total checks $25,750.97 and a total balance of $11,064,485.06. The board accepted the Treasurer's Report showing a beginning balance of $12,088,753.13, total revenue of $4,228,519.62, total expenses of $5,252,787.69 and an ending balance of $11,064,485.06. Both motions were recorded as carried "all in favor." The Register of Deeds reported $11,674.50 in fees for the month; the board approved that statement by motion of Stotz and second of Standy.

Highway Superintendent Doug Cimpl briefed the board on several items the department is addressing: the Geddes Oil Road project, a proposal to adjust the Platte Creek Road speed limit, gravel deliveries for Forbes Township, issues around wetland credits, coordination with Northwestern Energy on power lines, and a request for a flashing stop sign west of Geddes. The minutes record the superintendent's review but show no formal highway actions or funding allocations taken at the June 4 meeting.

The board then moved on to election business and other agenda items. No contested votes on the financial items were recorded in the minutes; all motions were recorded as unanimous.
