At the June 10 meeting, parent and teacher Stephie Cho urged the committee to promote DonorsChoose as a classroom funding resource, described projects she has run and items she has obtained, and offered to present training for teachers.
"Donor's Choose provides a valuable opportunity for teachers to obtain materials and resources that often cannot be purchased through existing school budgets," Cho said, describing how projects are posted, funded and fulfilled. She said Norris Elementary already has a presence on the DonorsChoose website and that she can help staff create accounts and projects.
Separately, the committee approved a short out-of-state field trip for six students to a Connecticut facility. The motion included language allowing the chair to sign permission paperwork on behalf of the committee.
The principal reported 52 kindergarten enrollments and recommended accepting five school-choice students who are siblings of current students, which would bring fall kindergarten to about 57 students and keep class sizes small; committee members agreed siblings are commonly admitted when space allows.
