Athletic Director Lawrence Reeves told the board that the MHSAA changes had been reviewed and found consistent with the district’s philosophy for interscholastic athletics. He said the biggest notable change this year is the introduction of image-and-likeness (NIL) guidance for high-school students: in some cases students may receive compensation or perks (for example, local businesses providing products or small payments tied to endorsements), but the district will follow MHSAA rules to disclose and document such arrangements. "The way that it works in high school would be…you can get free pizza at Marco's," Reeves explained by way of example, and he said the district would be notified and follow required procedures for eligibility and compliance.
Board members noted recent athletic successes — league championships in multiple sports — and expressed appreciation for the district’s coaches and staff. The board adopted the resolution to accept MHSAA rules for August 1, 2026 through July 31, 2027 in a unanimous vote with seven yes and zero nays.
