The South Redford Board of Education unanimously adopted its 2026–27 operating budget and approved the district’s 2026 tax levy following a brief public hearing Tuesday night.
At the public hearing, Finance Director Mickey Borie reported projected expenditures of $61,527,359 for the 2026–27 school year and projected revenues of about $63,238,766, which the district said would increase the fund balance by roughly $1.73 million and leave a projected June 30, 2026 fund balance of $7,190,757. "The adoption of this budget that was presented to the board on May 18 would result in an increase to the district's fund balance," Borie told the board. No members of the public spoke during the hearing.
After closing the hearing at 7:28 p.m., board member Amanda Flesher moved to adopt the resolution; Lorie Hicks seconded. The board adopted the budget in a roll call vote with seven votes in favor and zero nays.
The board then established the 2026 tax levy. The finance director said taxable property values in South Redford rose roughly 5.4% compared with 2025 and recommended the district levy 18 mills on non-homestead property for general operations; 7.95 mills on all property for debt retirement; and 1.9389 mills for the building and site sinking fund approved by voters in May 2022. That levy resolution also passed unanimously in roll call, seven-to-zero.
Board members did not raise amendments to the budget on the floor. The actions complete the budget and levy process ahead of the new fiscal year; the finance office will publish final levy paperwork as required by state law.
The board’s roll-call sequence recorded the following members voting in favor: Emily Johnson; Lorie Hicks; Amanda Flesher; Sean/Sher Flesher; Misha Early; Daniel Winston; and Miss Tolman.
