Santa Maria names Ramon Gallo as new Recreation and Parks director

Ramon Gallo, the newly appointed Recreation and Parks director, was introduced to the Commission at the start of the June 9 meeting. "I'm really happy to be here ... I can't wait to work with you and see how we can better serve our community," Gallo said, speaking to commissioners and staff.
Gallo said he has spent time with staff, attending field events and reviewing programming, and praised the department’s employees as experienced and committed. He told commissioners he is gathering participation data to better understand resident use of city facilities and pledged to support staff and community partnerships to expand programming.
The introduction was brief and largely ceremonial; commissioners welcomed Gallo and thanked outgoing interim managers and staff for recent work on events and facility openings.
Why it matters: a new director sets departmental priorities and will play a key role as staff respond to the preliminary budget proposals being considered by council later in June.
