Shelby County Commission unanimously moves Precinct 8 polling place for June 16 runoff

The Shelby County Commission voted unanimously Tuesday to change the polling location for Precinct 8 for the June 16, 2026, runoff election, designating Our Savior Lutheran Church at 1074 Dunnavant Valley Road in Birmingham as the new site.

Commissioner Robbie Hayes moved to approve Resolution 2026-06-02-01, and Commissioner Tommy Edwards seconded the motion; the vote was unanimous. The commission recorded Commissioners Elwyn Bearden, Tommy Edwards, Robbie Hayes, Kevin Morris, Jon Parker and Rick Shepherd as present; Commissioners Lindsey Allison, Josh Sisk and Ward Williams were absent.

The resolution states the Probate Judge of Shelby County informed commission staff within three months of the scheduled runoff that the previously certified polling location at North Shelby Baptist Church, a privately owned property, would not be available on the election date. Citing guidance from the Attorney General's Office (W. N. Watson, AG Opinion No. 99-00273), the resolution declares the unavailability an emergency that permits the commission to designate a new location within the same precinct on short notice.

Resolution 2026-06-02-01 formally names Our Savior Lutheran Church as the official voting location for Precinct 8 for the June 16 runoff and includes the church's address. The resolution also states that no other precincts are affected and that previously certified locations remain in effect as certified by Resolution 2026-02-23-09.
