Mayor Ward urges finalization of Downtown Development Plan; council hears appointments and adjourns

Mayor Kurt Ward joined the May 7 work session by phone and said the Downtown Development Plan’s completion has stalled, asking that the council authorize a member or staff to finalize and wrap up the plan.
"I would like to authorize someone on council to get the plan wrapped up and finalized," Ward said by phone. Councilmember Richard Harper asked whether the plan covered one or both parcels; staff responded that it included both parcels and envisioned all Town-owned downtown parcels.
The council also considered an appointment to the Gainesville–Hall Metropolitan Planning Organization Citizen Advisory Committee. Joseph Boyd, MPO Director, recommended reappointing Billy Edwards to a three-year term beginning July 1, 2026 and running through June 30, 2029; the recommendation drew no discussion. Council members briefly discussed two appointments to the Town’s Urban Redevelopment Agency (URA); no debate or public comment was recorded.
At 4:10 p.m., Mayor Pro Tem Becky Richardson moved to adjourn; Councilmember James Murphy seconded and the meeting was adjourned.
