The City of Weatherford Planning and Zoning Commission on June 10 approved two rezoning requests by Debbie Howard converting small parcels on South Tower Street from commercial to single-family residential.
Staff member Monica Johnson explained that 202 South Tower Street (approximately 0.459 acres) is currently used as a home and that rezoning it to R1 would align zoning with actual use; staff recommended approval. The commission opened the public hearing and received no speakers; Commissioner Hinton moved to approve and Ms. Hayes seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
A separate request by the same applicant to rezone 114 South Tower Street (approximately 0.226 acres) from C1 to R1 was presented similarly; Johnson said the future land use designation would be updated to match the requested zoning. That item also drew no public testimony and the commission approved it by unanimous vote after a motion from Commissioner Hinton and a second from Ms. Hayes.
Commission discussion noted that while some nearby blocks retain commercial character, approving a rezoning when a property is already used as a residence helps owners market and sell their property.
